Project Description

YHAP aims to cultivate our youth into Health Ambassadors, positively influencing their community to adopt healthy lifestyle practices. Through our programme, the youth will be empowered with the relevant health knowledge as well as the platforms on which to share with the general public, which truly enables them to become ambassadors of health for their friends, families and communities. This is achieved through two complementary stages - health talks and health projects.

I was motivated to join this project as many of my family members are plagued with diabetes. Hence, during this programme, when we were taught about diabetes, it was very eye-opening and I shared what I learnt with my family members too. The first part was educating us about diabetes, and then we were tasked to raise awareness of this issue to the general public, and more specifically among elderly.

Posters

Game

To help the public (especially the elderly), get more acquainted with the signs and symptoms of diabetes, I designed a deck of cards with the signs and symptoms in English and Chinese such that different demographics would be able to read them. On the back of the cards, there are circles and crosses that indicate which are correct or wrong.

Reflections

I really learnt a lot about diabetes through this experience and had fun interacting with the public in different languages to help them understand the signs, symptoms and complications of diabetes and useful tips they can incorporate into their daily lives for them to lead more active and healthier lifestyles.
