Part of a UI/UX Design Test that landed me an internship opportunity! 🧡
Product Design
This was the second stage of the Shopee UI/UX internship application, where I was invited to complete a remote UI /UX Design Test.
Test Topic:
Redesigning Shopee Home Tab
Description:
The Home tab is the first touch point of an e-commerce platform, making it a very important feature as it impacts GMV directly.
Currently, the click rate performance of each module is assumed to not be good enough. As a UI/UX designer, please redesign this page for the 6+1 greater SEA region (Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines) to improve the performance of the overall click rate based on your experience and the limited information we have provided to you.
The timeline for this exercise was really short, hence there wasn't sufficient time to do enough research and interview existing users to understand their pain points, hence if there is an opportunity in the future, I would like to interview a more substantial number of users across the SEA region. For this, I foresee needing the help of translators as well due to the language barrier as well as needing to actually download the app that is available in that particular country, as I presume that there would be slight differences in the interface and experiences across the region due to users's different needs and preferences. Last but not least, I hope to get more data points regarding the current performance of different modules, and then based on that, set specific target metrics for my solution, such that we can determine the success of the changes after experimentation. Speaking of which, I would also look forward to testing out my prototype with actual users from different archetypes and from different countries in a usability test and interview them to uncover problems and discover opportunities to improve on in the design such that I can iterate on the design and enhance the user experience of the solution before rolling it out in an experiment.
After this design test, there was another interview to talk to the team that I would be joining and then I was offered the position! However, due to the inflexibility of my school timetable, the time I was able to commit to the internship was not sufficient, hence they kept the offer open and gave me the option to get back to them the next time I was keen and had more time :)
